We are the Oakland Organizer Activist & Artist Coalition

The Oakland Organizer Activist and Artist Coalition (OOAAC) aims to increase education and participation in COVID-19 vaccination rates in Oakland through a culturally responsive social media communications campaign, partnerships with an Artist Sponsorship Program (Vaxx Facts Ambassadors), and Vaxx Facts events.

The Vaxx Facts Campaign

The OOAAC is launching a media campaign aimed at opening dialogue about community centered COVID-19 and vaccinations. Vaxx Facts, the social media education and mobilization campaign, will include video, social media collateral and fact sheets, with common COVID related questions and medically accurate answers.

Broadcasting trusted community voices

In partnership with local doctors and Bay Area recording artists, OOAAC will elevate the leadership and genius of health care professionals as trusted messengers and providers in the fight against COVID-19. Together, we will leverage the celebrity of local artists and elevate the public trust of the doctors in their local community— motivating Oaklanders to get vaccinated.

Leveraging the artist community

Another track of the program is an Artist Sponsorship Program in which our Vaxx Facts Ambassadors share Vaxx Facts via social media posts on a weekly basis. These artists have felt the impact of COVID firsthand and the ASP will resource local artists to create art that is factually accurate and culturally relevant. Posting and sharing our educational communications content, artists serve as ambassadors and validators about the scientific realities of the virus and power of vaccination, thereby reducing misinformation in the community.

Spreading info through gatherings

The last track of the program consists of “Vaxxed & Relaxed” events and gatherings. We want to leverage culture to shift the culture around the importance of vaccination by sponsoring events that are fun and engaging with onsite vaccination stations available. Whether the vaccination sites are stationary or pop up sites, these events provide access to the vaccine and information in order to increase awareness, provide support and connect the community to local health care heroes.
